Kroger Case Study

Protecting the units of one of the largest grocery stores in america to endure over 26,000+ hours of live salt air.

Combatting Coastal Air: Kroger’s refrigeration condenser coils sit on their roof, and the store sits directly on the Gulf of Mexico on Galveston Island, Texas. The salt air in Galveston is the highest salt concentration at 39ppm, of any where in the USA, including Hawaii and Florida which also have high corrosion rates.

Kroger’s Challenge

HVAC/R coils can be severely affected by corrosive elements such as salt air, off gassing from many manufacturing and industrial environments and urban smog. This corrosion shortens the life of the equipment and causes it to use much more energy while it is running. Such was the case with Kroger – Their store sits directly on the Gulf of Mexico with an extremely high salt content.

The Solution

CoilSafe® was the ideal solution for Kroger’s salt-heavy environment – CoilSafe® is specifically designed to target this problem and to prevent corrosion and energy losses.

The Result

Both units were installed in 2019. 3 years later, the non-coated unit is destroted by corrosion and the CoilSafe® treated unit is in near new condition and saving the customer energy and life cycle replacement cost. CoilSafe® has been exposed to over 26,000 hours of live salt air and peformed excellently.
